Most dishwasher calls start with one of these problems:
We repair built-in dishwashers from all the major brands we service. Our work covers pumps, inlet valves, door latches, heating elements, spray arms and control boards.
A dishwasher that won't drain usually has a clogged filter, a kinked drain hose or a blocked drain pump. Start with the filter, since it's the easiest fix. If the dishwasher drains through a garbage disposal, check the disposal next.
This one catches a lot of homeowners. A new garbage disposal ships with a knockout plug sealing its dishwasher inlet. If nobody removed it, the dishwasher has nowhere to drain. Maytag lists this plug as a top cause of a dishwasher that won't drain after a new install.
A missing high loop in the drain hose causes trouble too. Without that loop, dirty sink water can flow back into the dishwasher.
If the filter is clean and the hose is clear, the drain pump may have failed. You may hear a hum with no water moving. That's a repair for us. Our garbage disposal repair page covers disposals that jam or hum.

Dallas tap water is moderately hard, at about 8 to 9 grains per gallon. That's according to Dallas Water Utilities' 2024 water quality report. Hard water leaves minerals behind every time your dishwasher runs.

Over time, those minerals cause:
Cleaning won't help once scale has clogged the inlet valve or coated the heater. Signs include slow filling, a weak spray or cycles that run much longer than before. At that point, the part needs replacing.

Where the water shows up tells you the likely cause:
| Where you see water | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Front of the door | Worn or torn door gasket, or too much detergent foaming over |
| Under the machine | Loose hose clamp, failed pump seal or cracked tub |
| Only during fill | Leaking water inlet valve or supply line |
| After you moved it | Dishwasher is no longer level |
Start by wiping the door gasket and checking that the dishwasher sits level. If water keeps coming from underneath, turn off the power and the water valve under the sink. Then call us before the leak damages your floor or cabinets.

Repair usually makes sense if your dishwasher is under about 9 years old. The repair should also cost less than half the price of a new one. That 50% rule is a common benchmark.
The average dishwasher lasts about 9 years, according to a National Association of Home Builders study. Dallas hard water can shorten that if the filter and spray arms aren't kept clean.
| Situation | Usual best choice |
|---|---|
| Under 9 years, drain pump, latch or inlet valve | Repair |
| Under 9 years, control board | Usually repair |
| 9+ years with a cracked tub or failed motor | Often replace |
| Repeated breakdowns in the same year | Weigh replacing |
We'll tell you honestly if a repair isn't worth it.
Have the model number ready when you call. It's usually on a label along the edge of the door or the tub opening.

Most dishwasher repairs take a single visit when the part is on hand. Filter, hose and door latch problems are usually quick. A drain pump or control board takes longer. If a part must be ordered, we come back as soon as it arrives.
It's best not to. Water under a dishwasher can damage your floor and cabinets without you seeing it. Turn off the power and the water valve under the sink. Wipe up what you can, then call for dishwasher repair in Dallas.
Usually it's hard water, not a broken dishwasher. Dallas water is moderately hard, and the minerals dry onto glass. Clean the filter, keep rinse aid filled and use dishwasher detergent only. If the film stays and filling slows, the inlet valve may need repair.
